Raymond Lei

I'm a startup founder building consumer tech companies.

Since age 16, I've founded three companies with over $100 million in combined annual revenue. Every company I've started has been bootstrapped, with a focus on margin and opex efficiency, often using this as a competitive wedge.

I think starting a company is the most fun thing you can possibly do -- a wonderful combination of intellectual challenge, creativity, and impact. I gravitate toward building products that solve my own problems, and hope to start a new companies every couple years for the rest of my life.

Recently, I've been curious about:
- figuring out my 80-20 approach toward fitness, appearance, and longevity
- creating a simple way to manage lactose intolerance and IBS
- reversing the trend of declining birth rates amongst the well-resourced

Projects

ooShirts

Affordable custom t-shirts - over 10 million sold

My first company. I started ooShirts in high school after a bad experience ordering custom t-shirts. Existing companies had gross margins of 50 to 70% (!), so we differentiated by offering lower prices. I started it more from a moral indignation toward high prices rather than a well-thought out business plan, but it worked out alright.

Scalable Labs

All-in-one platform to start an online merch store, powering over $1.5B in sales

Ecommerce platform that gives you everything you need to start your own merch store. We offer a printing API, a Shopify app, and a merch marketplace.

Lumina

High-end webcams

Started during the covid lockdowns. The inspiration came when I joined a Zoom call with someone with a professional setup, and realizing I would never get there without spending hours tinkering on a complex DSLR setup.

Writing

In my free time, I enjoy thinking about the Singaporean government, removing bureaucracy, how to sing better, longevity, blood sugar levels, and sleep hygiene.
